Our forums, discord, and Minecraft network/servers follow the guidelines listed below. Each server will have additional rules based on its purpose, however the guidelines found here apply universally to all of them. The specific server rules will be linked at the bottom of this post.

Minecraft Hogwarts is not affiliated with J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros. and affiliates. This is a community based on a fan-made recreation of Harry Potter story and movie elements.

DEFINITIONS

• Staff - Designated users with administrative privileges to moderate the servers and community.

• Assistant - Users who have been granted build permissions on the Minecraft Hogwarts server.

• Network - The minecraft servers, websites, and Discord associated with this community.

• Content - Consists of, but is not limited to:

  • Custom plugin code

  • Configuration files

  • Multimedia files created by staff/assistants

  • Internal documents that have not been made publicly available

A. SOCIAL STANDARDS

1. Treat other community members with respect. This is core to everything we believe in. When you express your opinions, please do so politely and respectfully.

2. Please be mindful of other people’s experience while using the chat/post function available in game, on the forums, or in Discord. This includes avoiding excessive posting or spamming. Also, all-caps is often read as YELLING! And yelling at someone is usually not very nice. Please limit the use of caps.

3. We understand this is a global community, however, in order to maintain a consistent level of moderation, communication in all public posts, chat, and voice channels is to be in English.

4. If you have an argument or unpleasant encounter with another player, our lovely moderation team are available to advise and assist. Please contact them and/or report the player using the tools available within the game. Whatever the situation, don’t “name and shame” other members of the community publicly as this counts as harassment.

5. Think twice about the information that you share publicly. Do not post personal information (phone numbers, email addresses, passwords, account information, physical addresses, first and last names, etc) about yourself or others.

6. You are not allowed to promote any manner of illegal activity.

7. Create content and conversation that is positive and encouraging, rather than negative and disparaging. It should go without saying, but don’t ever create posts or content with the purpose of starting a fight or to elicit a negative response.

8. Inappropriate in-game skins or community avatars is prohibited.

9. The server is targeted to age 12 and above, however, since we are not all-powerful, we cannot regulate what the real age of someone actually is. Please bear that in mind while communicating with others.

   • Pornographic or adult themed content is never acceptable, and will result in a temporary ban. Continued usage will result in a permanent ban. If it’s questionable, do not share it.

   • We understand that having a potty-mouth (cursing, cussing, etc.) is the norm today. Not here. Profanity is strongly discouraged, and will be met with warnings, kicks, bans, and in-game action as appropriate–not necessarily in that order.

   • Minecraft Hogwarts has a zero-tolerance policy towards hate speech, bullying, harassing, sexual solicitation, or threatening others.

10. Do not share your account information with anyone. We will never ask for your password, and you shouldn’t give it.

11. Creating accounts on other social platforms/servers, and mis-representing them as an association with Minecraft Hogwarts is prohibited without express, verifiable (publicly accessible) permission.

    • Misrepresenting yourself as a staff member, or community leader for Minecraft Hogwarts is prohibited.

    • Providing an intentional misrepresentation of the community is punishable by permanent ban.

12. Your Discord and community name should match your in-game name. This is for administrative purposes. You will be asked to change your username/nickname to match.

13. Advertising is not allowed without verifiable permission from staff. Discussion is fine, but posting links in chat or on the forums is prohibited.

14. Posting private content regarding the community services, plugins, configuration, etc. without verifiable permission will result in a permanent ban.

B. IN GAME STANDARDS

1. The use of clients and resource packs that provide an unfair advantage is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:

   • Hacked clients

   • Aimbot

   • Anti-knockback

   • Auto-armor

   • Criticals

   • Dolphin

   • Glide

   • Kill-aura

   • No fall damage

   • Nukers

   • Rapid-fire

   • Regeneration

   • Sneak

   • Speed (fast and anti-slowdown)

   • Water-walking (Jesus)

   • X-Ray (client and/or resource pack)

2. Griefing (intentionally breaking/harming) builds owned by other players is prohibited. This includes using in-game mechanics to have the game damage another player’s builds.

3. Similar to griefing, setting a lock on applicable blocks/entities belonging to other players is also prohibited without their consent. Providing access for others to your own chests is acceptable via the appropriate commands.

4. Mob activity

   • Killing, or intentionally causing to be killed, mobs on claimed land without express permission is not allowed.

   • Killing, or intentionally causing to be killed, named mobs is explicitly prohibited.

5. Downloading the world, map, or portions of will result in a permanent ban.

C. BANS

1. Any person who is found to have violated our community terms of service and/or guidelines may be subject to temporary or permanent ban.

2. The length of a ban will be determined by the severity, or repeated nature of the offense. This is also up to the discretion of the staff.

3. Staff have the right to temporarily kick or ban you for ignoring their requests. Arguing with staff about the appropriateness of a specific punishment will not help your case.

4. At the time of the ban, you will be informed of its duration and whether or not the ban can be appealed.

   • If a ban can be appealed, please create a new post here for review and discussion.

   • If an existing ban is upheld, it may be subject to review after a period of time to be stated by the staff.

   • If a ban is permanent, it is not subject to negotiation or review.

D. GENERAL

1. ToS revisions / guideline updates

   These terms and community guidelines may be updated with or without notice and is considered a living document. Please revisit this page regularly to stay up to date with the current terms and conditions.

2. Content Ownership

   Any content provided by the community for use on the Minecraft Hogwarts network servers grants Minecraft Hogwarts permanent license to use and/or distribute as appropriate to better serve the community and its functionality.

3. Donations

   Any donations given to the Minecraft Hogwarts network is appreciated, but not required. If any member of the community tries to convince you that donating is required for access to the network, please report this to ViggyIggy.

   Refunds will not be given for any donations. If you are banned for a violation of the terms of service or community guidelines, this does not entitle you to a refund.

As an effort to reduce the amount of repeating admins need to do, I am pinning this in Discord for reference. This will be updated as relevant over time.

Official rules for each server will be posted in their respective forums as time permits.

Current state of the network:

Version: 1.15.2 – some critical plugins broken, but being updated. Migrating to 1.16.1 within the next couple weeks.

I’m not gonna lie–1.12.2 to 1.15.2 caused a lot of headache on my part. Still trying to figure out the path forward for many issues. Most chunks are still 1.12.2 until the worldedit //regen command is fixed and I can selectively update. I may still regenerate the map on a new seed and copy over old builds, but not until we are on 1.16.1 or above.

MINECRAFT HOGWARTS NETWORK SERVERS

The Minecraft Hogwarts network is comprised of 4 (currently) servers with various worlds on each one running in a Waterfall (Bungeecord) network:

1. Lobby - Where it all begins
2. Minecraft Hogwarts - Our interpretation of Hogwarts
3. Only the Brave - Survival
4. Fastlane - Racing

LOBBY

Just click on the signs to pick your server. This world is a placeholder while we get something more official in place. If you spawn below the warps, jump off the island. Your certain respawn with ensure you return to the appropriate location.

MINECRAFT HOGWARTS

Established February 21st, 2015 this has truly been a labor of love. It has been restarted more times than we care to admit, but real life and Minecraft don’t always get along.

This recreation of Hogwarts is a blend between the Goblet of Fire version, Deathly Hallows, and the Warner Bros. model of this famous school of wizardy and magic. The school, and the to-be-determined surrounding communities, is a continual work in progress. There is so much work to be done, time required, and not enough hours in the day to get to it. Feel free to stop by, check it out and ask if you can help. With the majority of the exterior done, the focus is starting to shift toward the interior and terrain.

ONLY THE BRAVE (Survival - WHITELISTED)

Also established in 2015 (4/18), this was created as a distraction for the labor intensive Hogwarts server. Very quickly it took on a life of its own. The active players have ebbed and flowed over the years, but it’s still here–mostly because it’s where I go to relax. It boasts economy (currently broken due to the original author abandoning the project [being fixed/updated by me]), as well as many other exclusive plugins. We recently added a not-exactly-a-secret Parkour area over Zen Village, because, well, why not?

Due to the potential for griefing, this server is currently protected by a whitelist. This will be changing. Here is a breakdown from a previous archived post:

• Spawn will be moving to the docks in front of the arena. I have another boat to build. *grin*
• New players will be granted the rank of Traveller.
  • These players will be in Adventure mode with limited access to breaking objects
  • They have the ability to interact with the economy in a limited fashion – food, armor, weapons, general gear is accessible to them
  • All new players have the option of becoming a combatant at the arena. If they do so, the rank of Warrior (still in flux) will be granted and they are allowed to compete in PvP/PvE tournaments. More on the arena in a later post
• The progression from Traveller to Settler is determined by your activity and involvement in the community. Settlers can make recommendations on who gets promoted, but this isn’t guaranteed. You may get a trial build to prove you can actually contribute something useful to the server (no offence intended).
• Existing Settlers will be re-evaluated and potentially demoted back to Traveller
  • Depending on the time since last login and build quality, land owned by previous Settlers may be regenerated to their original state

There are 4 plugins that will be quickly phased into play:

• SimpleTools updates (more physics handlers for blocks/other commands, also dropping items in specified worlds (creative anyone?) will clean up your mess like a parent with a toddler.)
• Gambling (Flint and a few other new games/surprises)
• Arena combat (hooks the gambling plugin as well)
• Regions
  • Allows Settlers to claim land for builds and establish regions
  • Allows Governors/Mayors/Lords/etc. to jail people in their own regions and set bail.

Upcoming plugins some time post-whitelist:

• Law
  • Allows Marshals to review/enforce laws per region
  • Allows Governments to establish laws/auto-penalties based on PvP, PvE, griefing/theft in their regions. Still working out the details on this

So, how do you get on the whitelist? It’s simple. 3 easy payments of your soul + you serenade me–live. Okay, the soul part isn’t real, but the singing is. The song doesn’t have to be full–a good 10 sec or so will suffice, although I reserve the right to tell you to sing something else, or sing longer depending on audio/vocal quality. We haven’t denied anyone who has sung yet due to their voice, and that says something! It’s amazing what stepping outside your comfort zone tells someone about you.

After singing, you will be added to the whitelist. You will be granted the rank of Traveller, and will then undergo a brief tour to learn about the server, and how to get around. After that, as it currently stands, you will be promoted to Settler where you can go off and build–checking with me first to make sure the area isn’t already claimed. Again, if you read the upcoming changes listed above, this process will be deprecated in the near future, but the song part will probably remain in some form.

FASTLANE (Ice-boat racing)

Ice-boat racing. How fast are you? Go check out the leaderboards and weep at your pathetic time–unless you’re good and are on the board. In that case, congrats to your epicness!

1. Respect is key. When within The Emerald Kingdom you will show respect to people, property, animals and the land.

• The crime of murder of a person will result in a heavy fine (set at $75) and banishment from the kingdom.
• The crime of raiding/destroying the property of a person will result in a heavy fine (not to exceed $75 but amount will be managed depending on the severity of the crime) and temporary banishment.
  -The crime poaching of passive animals for sport or non-edible resources will result in a fine (not to exceed $50 but amount will be managed depending on the severity of the crime).

2. The killing of aggressive animals for sport and non-edible resources is permitted and the killing of passive animals for food in the greatest need is permitted.

3. Should you be in need of resources, the natural laws of The Emerald Kingdom are stated here:

• For every tree you cut down, you must plant four trees of the same kind in reasonable placement (no grids, tree farms, etc. shall be permitted)
• If you are in need to obtain items such as and related to: sand, grass, stone, ores or other blocks of the type you are to take in a way that preserves the natural feel in the area. Strip-mining is highly discouraged and you must seek an audience with the Queen to be granted special permission.

4. The building of any structures (including those within 1000 blocks and the surrounding islands of The Emerald Kingdom) is overseen by the Queen, temporary housing is available if you do not wish to submit to the building standards of The Emerald Kingdom.

If any quarrels arise regarding these rules or if you wish to obtain a building/mining permit, you may seek an audience with the Queen. Investigations and trials will be conducted by the Queen.

(People in The Emerald Kingdom are also subject to those rules of the server, created by Admins, such as ViggyIggy)

At any rate, I’m going to start zeroing account balances of anyone I find using an x-ray or any other hack for that matter.

1st offense - Economy balance set to $0
2nd offense - Economy balance set to $0 and a 1-8 week ban (length to be complely arbitrarily determined by myself or a Marshal depending on our mood)
3rd offense - Permanent ban

Yes, I realize I can install ore obfuscators to mitigate this, but it adds lag to the server and will impact those with already less-than-optimal connections. I shouldn’t have to. I mean… come on, folks.

Hogwarts Resource Pack

I can’t be bothered with jail cells so breaking the law means a fine!

• No killing/murdering allowed exept for agressive mobs or non-agressive if you’re really hungry. If you kill too much you can be fined $50 and be jailed for 20 minutes.
• Taking stuff from chest without permission of arditt is illegal and banishable.
• Building/breaking within a range of 200 of Seabreeze without permissions is illegal. If you fail to follow this rule you will be fined $60 and jailed for 20 minutes.
• If you are banished and enter Seabreeze without permission you will be jailed for 30 minutes and fined $80.

1. You may not kill any animals, unless you are starving (your food bar is empty), or if you are a member of Feykro.
2. You may not murder people unless they have tried killing you,
3. Griefing is not allowed, even if you plan on returning it,
4. You may build/ destroy if you are told by Nic1337
5. It is not allowed to build within 50 blocks of Feykro’s area’s
6. You must pay all the taxes and entry fees (they are on signs placed on the area that you must pay for)
7. Those who are banned from Feykro are not allowed to enter unless told so by me Nic1337,

If you fail to obey to any of these laws you shall get a 100$ fine and/or jail (depending on what crime you did longer or shorter) and/or in the most extreme cases you shall be sentenced to death.

Those who are banned from Feykro’s areas are: TI_020106

Inhabitants: NicTheFifth, ReniMarus, SmaugJuice.

Please note: Jail time can only be served whilst on the server. The second you leave the server, the timer shall be halted. Also, fines that have been given, must be payed to Eaglz

Laws, and rules within ioroth nore.

• Nobody is permitted to enter ioroth nore other than myself, Thijs1801, Beathaven, Mandolore100, ViggyIggy and those who are authorized to act on his behalf. Shall you get caught entering ioroth nore; or being within 50 blocks away, you will be prosecuted and sent into imprisonment. Eaglz will then decide how long you will jailed for depending on the player that has committed the infringement. The maximum time you can be imprisoned is 30 minutes. As well as serving the appropriate jail time Eaglz has given to you, you will get a fine of $10, If you cannot pay for whatever reason, then Eaglz and the offender will arrange another means of payment or service. There are no bails. Any damage, disturbance, stolen items will be returned to its original state. If Eaglz has seen you and told you to leave without having the power to assign the offender his punishment immediately , and he ignores and proceeds to walk around, then the punishment will increase to 2 hours jail time and a fine of $50.

• Any modification of terrain, gathering of materials/recources or unauthorized building at ioroth nore is strictly prohibited and will result (ordered) in:

1. 2 days jail time
2. $100 fine
3. Death penalty

• Any murder at all inside ioroth nore is prohibited and punishable by 2 hours jail time as well as a fine of $100, looted items must be returned.

• Stealing of items inside chests/trapped chests or items dropped inside ioroth nore will result in 2 hours jail time, and a fine of $100, items stolen must be returned. Thievery or looting of items as a whole is prohibited and will result in the same punishment as stated above.

Having built/decorated your own room within the castle does not give you the right to break any of the rules above.
